Giovanni Pisano

Giovanni Pisano was an Italian sculptor and architect active during the late 13th and early 14th centuries. He is renowned for his expressive and dynamic sculptures that adorned cathedrals and public buildings, particularly in Pisa, Sienna, and other Tuscan cities. His work exemplifies the transition from the Romanesque to the Gothic style, blending realism with a sense of movement. Giovanni was the son of the famous sculptor Nicola Pisano and was influenced by both his father's work and the burgeoning humanist ideals of his time, which emphasized individual expression and naturalism in art.
