Gillnetting
Gillnetting is a fishing technique that uses large, vertical nets deployed in the water to catch fish. The nets are designed with closely spaced knots, called "bars," which allow fish to get caught by their gills when they swim through. Fish typically become entangled as they attempt to pass through the mesh to escape, making it an effective method for targeting specific species. Gillnetting is used commercially and recreationally, but it requires careful management to minimize bycatch and environmental impact. The nets can be set at different depths depending on the species being targeted.
