Gillnet

A gillnet is a type of fishing net designed to catch fish by entangling or catching them by their gills. It consists of a long, vertical curtain of fine mesh suspended in the water, usually anchored at the bottom and held upright by floats at the top. Fish swim into the net; when they try to pass through the mesh, their gills get caught, preventing further movement. Gillnets are often used in commercial fisheries because they can target specific species and are relatively efficient, but they can also result in bycatch, capturing unintended marine animals.
