Gilbert's syndrome

Gilbert's syndrome is a common, harmless condition where the liver slightly slows down its ability to process bilirubin, a yellow pigment from red blood cell breakdown. As a result, people with this syndrome may have mild, occasional yellowing of the skin or eyes, especially during stress, fasting, or illness. It does not cause serious health problems and typically requires no treatment. The condition is inherited and affects a small percentage of the population. Most individuals live normal lives, and the syndrome is often discovered through routine blood tests.
