GIF87a
GIF87a is an early version of the Graphics Interchange Format, a type of image file used for simple, small pictures like icons or animations on the web. It was introduced in 1987 by CompuServe. GIF87a supports basic color images and simple animations, with a limited color palette of up to 256 colors. It uses Lossless compression, which preserves image quality while reducing file size. Though it’s quite basic compared to newer formats, GIF87a was important historically and laid the groundwork for the widespread use of GIF images today.
