Giant Reed

Giant Reed (*Arundo donax*) is a tall, perennial grass that grows along rivers, lakes, and wetlands. It can reach heights of up to 20 feet and has thick, reed-like stems and long, narrow leaves. Originally from the Mediterranean, it has been used for making paper, musical instruments, and fencing material. However, it is considered invasive in many areas because it spreads rapidly, outcompeting native plants, altering ecosystems, and clogging waterways, which can impair water flow and habitat for wildlife. Its aggressive growth makes it important to manage in environments where native biodiversity needs protection.
