Ghana (the ancient kingdom)

The ancient Kingdom of Ghana, existing from around the 6th to 13th centuries in West Africa, was a powerful empire known for its wealth and trade, particularly in gold. It was strategically located between the Sahara Desert and the lush forests to the south, facilitating trade routes. The kingdom's capital, Kumbhuj, attracted traders and scholars alike. The king had significant power and was considered semi-divine. Despite its name, ancient Ghana was not located in present-day Ghana but in parts of modern Mali and Senegal. The empire eventually declined due to factors like overextension and invasion, paving the way for later empires.
