Ghana's independence

Ghana gained independence from British colonial rule on March 6, 1957, becoming the first sub-Saharan African country to do so. The independence movement was led by Kwame Nkrumah, who advocated for self-governance and unity among Africans. This movement was fueled by rising nationalism and the desire for political and economic autonomy. Ghana’s independence marked a significant moment in African history, inspiring other countries to pursue freedom from colonial powers. Nkrumah became Ghana's first prime minister, emphasizing the importance of self-reliance and development for the nation. Ghana's independence is celebrated annually as Independence Day.
