geysers

A geyser is a natural hot spring that periodically erupts, ejecting a column of boiling water and steam into the air. This happens because underground, water is heated by geothermal energy beneath the Earth's crust. As the water heats up, it becomes less dense and rises, but the pressure keeps it from boiling immediately. When enough pressure builds up, the water flashes into steam, causing a sudden release of energy that forces the water upward through a vent, creating the eruption. Geysers are rare and typically found in geothermal regions like Yellowstone National Park.
