Geronimo (leader)
Geronimo was a prominent Apache leader and medicine man known for leading his people in resisting U.S. and Mexican military efforts during the late 19th century. He fought to defend Apache lands and way of life against forced relocation and encroachment. Geronimo’s resilience and guerrilla tactics made him a symbol of Native American resistance. After years of conflict, he surrendered in 1886 and became a U.S. prisoner of war. Despite his captivity, he remained a powerful figure in Native American history, representing the struggle for autonomy and cultural preservation amidst colonization and forced assimilation.
