German Workers' Sport Federation

The German Workers' Sport Federation (Freier Deutscher Arbeitersportbund, FDAB), founded in 1893, was an organization dedicated to promoting physical activity and sports among working-class Germans. It aimed to foster health, teamwork, and social unity outside the influence of elite or bourgeois athletic clubs. The federation emphasized inclusive participation, physical education, and the development of a sense of community among workers. During the early 20th century, it became intertwined with social and political movements advocating for workers' rights and socialism. The organization was eventually suppressed by the Nazi regime in the 1930s, which viewed it as a threat to their control and ideology.
