German Unity

German Unity refers to the reunification of East and West Germany in 1990 after decades of division during the Cold War. East Germany, under communist rule, and West Germany, a capitalist democracy, were separated from 1949. The fall of the Berlin Wall in 1989 symbolized the desire for national reunification, which was achieved peacefully on October 3, 1990.
