German South West Africa

German South West Africa was a German colony from 1884 to 1915, located in what is now Namibia. It was established during the European scramble for Africa, aiming to expand Germany’s empire. The colony featured a mix of desert, savannah, and coastal areas, with German settlers establishing farms and towns. It was marked by economic activity like mining and farming, but also by conflicts with local indigenous groups, notably the Herero and Nama people, who resisted colonial rule, leading to tragic events like the Herero and Namaqua genocide. After Germany’s defeat in World War I, the territory was taken over by South Africa.
