German monarchy

The German monarchy was a system where a monarch, mainly emperors and kings, held political authority over various German territories from the medieval period until 1918. Initially centered on the Holy Roman Empire, the monarchy evolved into the German Empire in 1871, uniting many states under Kaiser Wilhelm I. The monarchy was characterized by hereditary rule, with the Kaiser wielding significant power, though constitutional limits varied over time. It ended after World War I, when Germany transitioned to a republic, abolishing the monarchy and establishing a parliamentary democracy.
