German Intelligence (Abwehr)
The Abwehr was the German military intelligence agency during World War II, responsible for gathering and analyzing information about enemy forces and activities. Established in the early 20th century, it operated under the German Armed Forces. Its tasks included espionage, counterintelligence, and sabotage. The Abwehr aimed to protect German military interests and support operations. However, it faced challenges, including internal rivalry with the Nazi regime's SS and mismanagement. After the war, the agency was disbanded, and many of its members were tried for war crimes, reflecting the darker aspects of intelligence work during a conflict.
