German Council Movement

The German Council Movement emerged after World War I as a response to the desire for workers' and soldiers' self-management in post-war Germany. It aimed to create a democratic alternative to traditional political structures, advocating for councils made up of workers and soldiers to govern society. Influenced by socialist ideas, the movement sought to empower ordinary people, promote social justice, and eliminate class inequality. While it gained momentum in 1918 and 1919, its impact was limited, and it eventually was overshadowed by the rise of more authoritarian regimes in the early 20th century.
