German Communist Party (KPD)
The German Communist Party (KPD) was a political party active in Germany mainly in the early to mid-20th century. Established in 1918, it aimed to promote communist ideas based on Marxist principles, advocating for a classless society and worker control of production. The KPD was opposed to both capitalism and mainstream social democracy, often aligning with Soviet communist policies. It played a significant role during the Weimar Republic era but struggled with political repression, internal conflicts, and opposition from other groups, including the Nazis. The party was dissolved in 1956 in West Germany amid Cold War tensions.
