German Colonial Empire

The German Colonial Empire was Germany's overseas territories from the late 19th to early 20th century, acquired during the "Scramble for Africa" and other imperialist pursuits. It included regions such as present-day Namibia, Tanzania, Cameroon, and Togo. These colonies aimed to expand Germany's global influence, access raw materials, and promote economic growth. However, German rule often involved exploitation and, in some cases, brutal repression, such as the Herero and Namaqua genocide in Namibia. After Germany's defeat in World War I, most of these colonies were taken over by other colonial powers under League of Nations mandates.
