German Abwehr

The German Abwehr was the country's military intelligence agency during World War II, responsible for espionage, reconnaissance, and covert operations abroad. Established in 1920, it gathered information about enemy forces, conducted sabotage, and supported Nazi strategic goals. While it served as Germany’s primary intelligence agency, it also became involved in complex political intrigues and was eventually compromised with some members participating in resistance or opposing Hitler. The Abwehr played a significant role in wartime intelligence efforts, functioning as the German military's key secret service until its dissolution in 1944.
