Gerbner's Theory

Gerbner's Theory, known as Cultivation Theory, suggests that repeated exposure to television shapes viewers' perceptions of reality. Over time, people tend to believe the world reflects what they see on TV—such as ideas about violence, gender roles, or social norms—regardless of actual statistics. This gradual "cultivation" influences attitudes and beliefs, often making people think that TV's portrayal is an accurate reflection of real life. Essentially, the more we watch certain content, the more it subtly influences our understanding of the world around us.
