Geosyncline

A geosyncline is a large, elongated depression in the Earth's crust, formed over millions of years by the accumulation of sediments and tectonic processes. These basins often serve as sites where rocks and sediments build up thick layers, which can later be uplifted and transformed into mountain ranges through geological forces. While the concept was historically used to explain mountain formation, modern geology now favors plate tectonics; nonetheless, geosynclines help understand how large-scale sedimentary deposits and mountain ranges are linked through Earth's dynamic history.
