George Soper

George Soper was an American public health engineer known for his work in epidemiology during the early 20th century. He is best recognized for investigating the spread of typhoid fever, particularly in the case of Mary Mallon, also known as Typhoid Mary. Soper determined that Mallon was an asymptomatic carrier of the disease, inadvertently spreading it to others while working as a cook. His findings were pivotal in highlighting the importance of identifying carriers in controlling infectious diseases, contributing to the development of public health measures and sanitation practices.
