George I
George I was the king of Great Britain and Ireland from 1714 to 1727, and the first monarch from the House of Hanover, a German royal family. Born in Germany, he became king after Queen Anne’s death because he was the closest Protestant relative. His reign marked the beginning of the constitutional monarchy, where the king’s power decreased and Parliament gained more influence. George I relied on ministers for governance and spent much time in Germany, leading to a period where political power shifted from the monarchy to elected officials in Britain.
