George Carmack (prospector)
George Carmack was a prospector and miner in the late 19th century who is best known for discovering gold in the Klondike River area of the Yukon in 1896. This discovery sparked the Klondike Gold Rush, a major migration of prospectors seeking wealth in northwestern Canada and Alaska. Carmack's find attracted thousands of adventurers and significantly impacted the region’s history and economy. Although he did not become extremely wealthy himself, his role in the gold discovery made him a key figure in North American gold rushes and the development of the Yukon during that period.
