Geographical indications (GI)
Geographical indications (GIs) are labels that identify products as originating from a specific place, where that location's unique environment, climate, or traditional production methods give the product its distinct qualities. Examples include Champagne from France or Roquefort cheese from France. GIs help protect the reputation of regional products, ensuring only genuine items from that area can use the name. They benefit local producers by preventing imitation and promoting authentic craftsmanship, supporting regional economies and preserving cultural heritage.
