Geographical Indication (GI)
Geographical Indication (GI) is a sign used on products that have a specific geographical origin and possess qualities or a reputation linked to that location. It helps identify products like wines, cheeses, or handicrafts that come from a particular area and are made using traditional methods. For example, "Champagne" can only come from the Champagne region in France. GI protects both producers and consumers by ensuring authenticity and quality, preventing misuse of the name, and promoting regional pride and economic development.
