Geographic Information Science and Technology (GIST) is the field that develops and applies tools and methods to gather, analyze, and visualize spatial data—information linked to specific locations on Earth's surface. It combines computer technology, mapping, and spatial analysis to help us understand patterns, make decisions, and solve problems related to geography. GIST is used in various areas like urban planning, environmental management, and disaster response to provide insights through maps, geographic information systems (GIS), and remote sensing techniques. It enables us to see the “where” behind data, improving understanding of the world around us.
