Geocode
A geocode is a set of coordinates, like latitude and longitude, that precisely indicates a specific location on Earth's surface. Think of it as the digital address for a place—similar to how a home address works but used primarily in mapping, navigation, and geographic information systems (GIS). By converting an address or place name into these coordinates, computers can accurately identify and display locations on maps. This process, called geocoding, helps with navigation, location-based services, and spatial analysis by translating human-readable locations into machine-readable spatial data.
