Geobukseon (turtle ships)

Geobukseon, or turtle ships, were innovative Korean warships used during the 16th century, particularly by Admiral Yi Sun-sin. They featured a covered deck with spikes to deter boarders and to prevent enemy fire. The ships had iron-clad sides and a dragon-shaped head at the bow that could emit smoke, serving both intimidating and tactical purposes. Designed for agility and combined with advanced artillery, turtle ships played a crucial role in Korea's naval defense against Japanese invasions, showcasing early military ingenuity and contributing significantly to Korean naval history.
