Gentrification and Urban Development
Gentrification is the process where urban neighborhoods undergo transformation due to an influx of more affluent residents and businesses. This often leads to increased property values and revitalization of infrastructure but can displace long-time residents who can no longer afford rising costs. Urban development, on the other hand, involves the planning and construction of new buildings, parks, and transportation systems to enhance city living. While both can improve a city’s economy and appeal, they also raise concerns about social equity and maintaining diverse communities. Balancing growth with inclusivity remains a critical challenge for cities.
