Genie (mythology)
A genie, in mythology and popular culture, is a supernatural being traditionally believed to grant wishes when summoned. Originating from Middle Eastern folklore, particularly "The Thousand and One Nights," genies (or jinn) are often depicted as powerful entities capable of both benevolent and mischievous acts. In Western adaptations, they are commonly portrayed as bound to a lamp or bottle, emerging when summoned to fulfill a person's desires—though often with unforeseen consequences. While rooted in ancient stories about spirits and spirits' capacities, modern portrayals emphasize the genie’s role as a magical, wish-granting entity embedded in storytelling and entertainment.
