Geneva Peace Conference

The Geneva Peace Conference was a series of international meetings held in 1954, mainly aiming to resolve the conflict after the First Indochina War. It brought together representatives from France, Vietnam, the Viet Minh, and other countries to negotiate peace and establish a plan for independence and coexistence in Indochina (Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia). The conference resulted in the Geneva Accords, which temporarily divided Vietnam at the 17th parallel and called for future elections. While it successfully paused fighting, some provisions were only temporary, and disagreements later contributed to the Vietnam War.
