Geneva Accord
The Geneva Accords refer to a series of agreements made in 1954 concerning the conflict in Indochina, primarily Vietnam. They aimed to resolve the war between French colonial forces and Vietnamese independence movements. The accords resulted in France withdrawing its troops, temporarily dividing Vietnam at the 17th parallel with a plan for national elections, and establishing a framework for peace. They also set provisions for restoring peace and independence to the region. Although intended to bring stability, the accords ultimately did not prevent further conflict, leading to the Vietnam War.
