Genetic Causes of Azoospermia

Azoospermia is a condition where a man has no sperm in his semen, which can stem from genetic causes. Common genetic factors include missing or abnormal sex chromosomes, like Klinefelter syndrome, where males have an extra X chromosome. Other genetic mutations can affect sperm production or transport. Y chromosome microdeletions can also lead to infertility. In some cases, inherited conditions like cystic fibrosis can obstruct sperm delivery. These genetic issues can disrupt normal hormone levels and sperm production, leading to azoospermia, emphasizing the importance of genetic testing in assessing fertility.
