General Stephen Van Rensselaer

General Stephen Van Rensselaer (1764–1839) was a prominent American figure known for his leadership during the War of 1812 and his role as a landowner and politician. He was the last patroon of the Rensselaerswyck estate, managing extensive landholdings in New York. As a militia leader, he helped defend New York from British invasions. Additionally, he served as a U.S. congressman. Van Rensselaer was influential in both military and civic spheres, exemplifying leadership during a formative period in early American history.
