General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm
General Louis-Joseph de Montcalm was a French military commander in the 18th century, known for defending France’s North American colonies against British forces. He led French and allied troops during the Seven Years' War (1756-1763), especially in the vital struggle for control of New France, which included parts of present-day Canada and the U.S. He is remembered for his strategic skill, but ultimately he was defeated at the Battle of Quebec in 1759. Montcalm's leadership and bravery are honored, and he is considered a significant figure in Canadian history for his role in the struggle between France and Britain over North America.
