General German Workers' Association (ADAV)

The General German Workers' Association (ADAV), founded in 1863 by Ferdinand Lassalle, was one of the first modern labor organizations in Germany. It aimed to improve conditions for workers through political activism, advocating for workers' rights, better wages, and social reforms. The ADAV promoted parliamentary participation, believing that political action was essential for achieving workers’ interests. It laid the groundwork for the German socialist movement and later influenced the formation of the Social Democratic Party. The ADAV played a key role in shaping workers’ representation and social policy in Germany during the late 19th century.
