General Charles Cornwallis

General Charles Cornwallis was a British military leader during the American Revolutionary War, known for his strategic skills and key campaigns. He led British forces in several important battles and helped secure British control over parts of the colonies early in the war. However, his defeat at the Battle of Yorktown in 1781, where American and French troops forced his surrender, was a turning point that contributed to Britain ending its fight for American independence. Cornwallis was also involved in other military and administrative roles in Britain and abroad, remaining a prominent figure in British military history.
