Gender Performity
Gender performativity is a concept suggesting that gender isn’t an inherent trait but something we "perform" through our behaviors, clothing, speech, and actions. It emphasizes that gender roles and identities are shaped by societal expectations and repeated actions, rather than being fixed or biologically determined. Essentially, by consistently acting in ways associated with a particular gender, individuals reinforce and express their gender identity. This perspective highlights that gender is dynamic, socially constructed, and can be expressed or challenged through different performances, allowing for flexibility and personal variation beyond traditional norms.
