Gender Inequality Index
The Gender Inequality Index (GII) measures disparities between women and men across three key areas: reproductive health, empowerment, and economic participation. It considers factors like maternal mortality, adolescent birth rates, the share of parliamentary seats held by women, and women’s labor market participation. A higher GII score indicates greater inequality, while a lower score reflects more gender equality. The index helps to understand how societal, political, and economic barriers affect women’s opportunities and well-being in different countries. It's a tool to highlight where gender gaps exist and to promote policies for greater equality.
