Gender Bias in Medical Research
Gender bias in medical research occurs when studies primarily focus on one gender, often men, leading to incomplete or less effective healthcare for women. This happens because historically, many clinical trials used male participants, assuming results would apply equally to women. As a result, differences in how diseases affect each gender, or how they respond to treatments, may be overlooked. Recognizing and addressing gender bias ensures that medical research provides accurate, comprehensive data, ultimately improving diagnosis, prevention, and treatment for everyone, regardless of gender.
