Gender-Based Violence (GBV)

Gender-Based Violence (GBV) refers to harmful acts directed at individuals based on their gender or gender identity. It often stems from unequal power dynamics and societal norms that devalue certain genders, most commonly affecting women and girls, but also impacting men and members of the LGBTQ+ community. GBV includes physical, sexual, emotional, and economic abuse, as well as harmful traditional practices. It infringes on victims’ human rights, causing physical and psychological trauma, and hinders gender equality. Addressing GBV requires societal change, legal protections, and support services to ensure safety and justice for survivors.
