Gender and Decolonization
Gender refers to the social and cultural roles, behaviors, and expectations associated with being male, female, or other identities, shaping how individuals experience and express themselves. Decolonization is the process of undoing colonial influences—political, cultural, and economic—restoring and valuing indigenous identities, knowledge, and practices. Together, these concepts highlight the importance of recognizing and dismantling systems that have historically marginalized certain genders and cultures, promoting equity, cultural pride, and self-determination. Embracing both involves challenging dominant narratives and supporting diverse identities and histories for a more inclusive society.
