Gellner's Theory

Gellner's Theory of nationalism suggests that nations and national identities emerge primarily because of changes brought by modernization, especially industrialization and education. As societies become more complex and connected, people develop shared language, culture, and values to create a sense of unity and belonging. This shared identity helps coordinate social and economic activities. According to Gellner, nationalism is a product of modern societies striving for social cohesion, often reinforced through national education systems and media, rather than existing solely based on ancient or historical ties. It's a way for societies to adapt to the demands of a changing world.
