GED (General Educational Development)

The General Educational Development (GED) is a series of tests that provide an opportunity for individuals who did not complete high school to earn a high school equivalency diploma. The GED assesses knowledge and skills in four subject areas: Reasoning through Language Arts, Mathematical Reasoning, Science, and Social Studies. Passing the GED demonstrates that a person has developed academic skills equivalent to those of high school graduates, which can enhance job prospects and allow for further education. It is widely recognized by employers and educational institutions as a legitimate alternative to a high school diploma.
