GC-MS

GC-MS, or Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry, is an analytical technique used to identify and analyze the components of a mixture. In simple terms, it first separates the mixture into individual substances using a process called gas chromatography, where samples are vaporized and carried through a small column. As the components exit the column, the mass spectrometer detects and measures their molecular weights, helping identify each substance based on its unique signature. This combination allows precise analysis of complex mixtures, making GC-MS valuable in fields like forensic science, environmental testing, and chemical analysis.
