GBS (Guillain-Barré Syndrome)

Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS) is an autoimmune disorder where the body's immune system mistakenly attacks the nerves outside the brain and spinal cord. This leads to rapid weakness, numbness, and sometimes paralysis, usually starting in the legs and progressing upward. The exact cause is unknown, but it often follows infections like flu or gastrointestinal illness. While serious, most people recover with medical care, including therapies like plasmapheresis or intravenous immunoglobulin. Early diagnosis and treatment are vital to reduce complications, and many patients regain much or all of their normal function over time.
