Gbagbo
Laurent Gbagbo is a former Ivorian politician who served as President of Côte d'Ivoire from 2000 to 2011. His presidency was marked by political unrest and conflict, especially during the 2010 presidential election, which led to a disputed result and a civil war. Gbagbo refused to accept his loss and was eventually detained by international forces. He was tried for crimes against humanity at the International Criminal Court but was acquitted in 2019. Gbagbo remains a significant figure in Ivorian politics, symbolizing both the nation’s struggles with democracy and efforts toward reconciliation.
