Gavage Feeding
Gavage feeding is a method of providing nutrition directly into a person's stomach or intestines using a tube. It is often used when someone cannot eat enough on their own due to illness, surgery, or incapacity. The tube is carefully inserted through the nose or mouth into the stomach (nasogastric) or directly into the stomach or intestines (gastric or jejunal). Nutrients, liquids, and medications are delivered through the tube, ensuring the person receives essential nourishment and hydration. This technique maintains nutritional health when oral feeding isn’t possible.
