Gaulleism
Gaullism is a political ideology rooted in the principles of Charles de Gaulle, emphasizing strong national sovereignty, independence, and a centralized government that guides economic and social policy. It stresses the importance of France's independence from foreign influence, especially from superpowers like the U.S. and Soviet Union during the Cold War. Gaullism also promotes a sense of national pride, strategic autonomy, and a strong executive leadership to ensure France’s interests are prioritized. While flexible in practice, it historically combined patriotic nationalism with efforts to maintain France’s stature as a major, independent global power.
